about
Tiny Wooden Box is the first single from the new album “Chains & Stakes” to be released on February 9, 2024.
"Chains & Stakes" was recorded in Mexico City’s Panoram Studio. After the success of their travel to Muscle Shoals, Alabama to make Sugar & Joy, The Dead South’s confidence in their craft and trust in their team brought them even further south of the border. Reunited with Grammy-winning producer Jimmy Nutt, the team wrote, recorded and empanada-ed their way through 13 songs full of plot twists, family trees, grudges, insurance scams, bacon, burials, banjo riffs and more. The result is an album of surprises, memorable moments, head-turning musicianship, and vulnerable personal stories. The Dead South have grown more adventurous and assured with each album, and Chains & Stakes is a truly “Dead South” collection in the balance of darkness and levity that has come to define their unmistakable brand.
lyrics
Lyrics :
Huhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Huuuhhhhhhhhhhhh
Got a call today, to see if I want to pay
To bring my body home, if things ever did go wrong
Wouldn't mind to pay, to bring my body to lay
In a place I do, in a place I do call home
In a tiny wooden box
Yeah
In a tiny wooden box
I was going around those days
Thinking everything was so damn good
So why'd it go away
For all the ones who are gone
We've been missing you
These feelings are
So damn strong
I was going around those days
Thinking everything
Thinking everything
Would be ok
Huhhhhhhhh
Huuuuuuuuuh
What a time of year
It's very pleasant here
All the names I know
How the faces do grow old
All the hurting here
Each and every year
How we want it to
we want it to
we want it to be gone
So I'll write another song
Yeah
I'll write another song
I was going around those days
Thinking everything was so damn good
So why'd it go away
For all the ones who are gone
We've been missing you
These feelings are
So damn strong
I was going around those days
Thinking everything
Thinking everything
Would be ok
If time heals everything
If time heals everything
If time heals everything
Then why do I
If time heals everything
If times heals everything
If time heals everything
Then why do I
Still feel this pain
Oh
Still feel this pain
I was going around those days
Thinking everything was so damn good
So why'd it go away
For all the ones who are gone
We've been missing you
These memories are
Holding on
I was going around those days
I was going around those days
I was going around those days
Thinking everything
Thinking everything
Would be ok

This might be the band that displaces Metallica as my favorite heavy metal band! It's heavy and has social commentary, which are my two favorite things in music. flannel_bear

Okay it is too hard to choose one favorite track but Oak & Ash & Thorn is the first song of TLJ I heard and it's just THE song of the year for me. I am READY for adventures. twofeatheredarrow
